Our last Messy Church for the year takes place on Sunday 2 December from 4pm to 6pm.
This month we are going to prepare decorations for the Jesse Tree that will stand in the Church during the weeks of Advent. The Jesse Tree is a tradition which recognises that we Christians do not celebrate Christmas until 25 December, regardless of how many months before then the retail world wants to try to cash in on Christmas. And so, during Advent, we look forward to Jesus’ coming at Christmas, just as the Israelites of Old Testament history looked forward to the Messiah’s coming.
As we prepare the various symbols that will be placed on the tree, we will remember the role played Abraham, Moses, Elijah and other great figures from the Old Testament.
Messy Church is always fun and there is so much to learn about God and his loving ways for us. We always finish with a meal, so there is no need to worry about Sunday dinner at home.
